It goes without saying that the Chicago of 1871 is very different from the Chicago of today. A lot of the street names have stayed intact, but almost all of the old buildings are gone.
Even so, you can still find pieces of the old Chicago scattered throughout the city. You just need to know where to look! This map shows some of the places featured in the book. The Chicago History Museum also has a website and an iPhone app for touring the fire.
